KEY TAKEAWAYSTiming matters
The end of summer term produced a weaker response. Better preparation, timing and visibility helped drive stronger participation in the second campaign.
High-value donors make a difference
Around 15 bags contained more than £20, showing the potential of reaching beyond pupils to parents, teachers and their wider networks.
Get Gift Aid right
Missing donor information meant no Gift Aid could be claimed, leaving a potential £351.90 unclaimed.

Youth Talk ran two school-based collection campaigns during 2025.
The first took place at the end of the summer term, with pupils given collection bags to take home. A second campaign followed in October, supported by an assembly introducing Youth Talk and a house competition encouraging pupils to collect and return bags.
Leaflets were also sent home with pupils to explain the campaign and encourage participation.

Timing proved important. The end of the summer term was less effective, while better preparation and visibility helped generate a stronger response during the October campaign.
Gift Aid was another key learning. The information needed to identify donors’ houses wasn’t collected, meaning Youth Talk was unable to claim Gift Aid on the donations.

Across the two campaigns, 178 bags raised £1,224.59, exceeding the £1,000 fundraising target.
The average bag was worth £7.61, while the highest-value bag contained £119.95. Around 15 bags were worth more than £20, although 115 contained less than £5.
The campaign provided valuable funding for Youth Talk while helping establish a blueprint for future school fundraising campaigns in the area.
