Donor FAQ

  • Almost any unused currency you have at home.

    That includes:

    • UK coins

    • Foreign coins

    • UK banknotes

    • Foreign banknotes

    • Old currencies

    • Pre-Euro currencies

    The only thing we ask you to leave out is damaged currency.

    If you're not sure, pop it in anyway and we'll let you know.

  • Yes. Unicorn Foundry accepts foreign coins from countries around the world, including currency left over from holidays and travel. Your coins don’t need to be sorted before donating.

  • Absolutely. Leftover travel money is exactly the kind of unused currency we want to put back to work. You can donate foreign coins and banknotes left over from past trips, even if you only have a small amount.

  • Yes. We can accept many old and out-of-circulation coins and banknotes, as well as current currency. If you’re unsure what you have, there’s no need to identify or value it yourself before donating.

  • Yes. Many pre-Euro currencies can still have value, including old European coins and banknotes that have been sitting unused for years. Add them to your donation and we’ll take care of the rest.

  • Nope.

    No counting.
    No sorting.
    No spreadsheets.

    Just fill your bag and we'll take care of the rest.

  • Great question.

    Registering your bag helps us connect your donation to you, so we can:

    • Apply Gift Aid where eligible

    • Keep you updated on your donation's journey

    • Tell you how much your donation was worth

    • Share the impact you've helped create

    Without registration, your donation can still help, but we won't be able to keep you in the loop.

  • Once your bag has been returned, the journey looks something like this:

    You fill a bag
    → We collect it
    → It gets counted and verified
    → Forgotten currency becomes real funding
    → Your chosen charity receives the funds
    → Good things happen

    Simple.

  • We're committed to keeping things transparent.

    Processing, exchange and administration fees are capped at a maximum of 25%.

    Where Gift Aid is successfully claimed, many campaigns will recover some or all of these costs, helping maximise the amount reaching the charity.

  • Yes.

    One of the most exciting parts of the journey is discovering the value hiding in your spare change.

    Registered donors will receive updates showing the progress and impact of their donation.

    You might be surprised what's been sitting in that kitchen drawer all these years.

  • No. There’s no need to separate currencies, identify coins or work out what anything is worth. Simply collect your unused currency together and donate it through your Unicorn Foundry campaign.

    Or, to put it another way:

    Without Champions, the magic doesn't happen.

  • A Blessing is the collective noun for unicorns.

    Around here, it's also what we call our community of Champions.

    Because a group of people doing good together deserves a better name than "volunteers".
